Consumer confidence rose in August to 56.9% up from 51.9% in July. The percent of consumers expecting business conditions to worsen came down to 25.8% from 32.4%. 32% of consumers still say jobs are hard to get, that number rose from 30.2%.

Experts say these readings suggest the economy remains stuck in a slump, but shows signs of improving by next year.
